Post Old Farts

OLD FART PRIDE

  *   Old Farts are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem. Old Farts remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment.  They know the words and believe in them.
  *
  *   Old Farts remember World War II, Pearl Harbour, Guadalcanal, Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam .
  *
  *   If you bump into an Old Fart on the sidewalk he will apologize. If you pass an Old Fart on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Old Farts trust strangers and are courtly to women.
  *
  *   Old Farts hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.
  *
  *   Old Farts get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies.
  *
  *   Old Farts have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag unless it's about their children or grandchildren.
  *
  *   It's the Old Farts who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.

This country needs Old Farts with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country and decent values.

We need them now more than ever.

Thank God for Old Farts!

I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting particularly harder to find them for me.

Exactly....
One thing I loved about my job in the early years as a Loco Fireman was working with the Old Drivers...
Man they were old...
But interesting to say the least. I learnt more off them ol codgers about my Job as a Driver in one shift then I learnt in my Railway history of schooling...
The Knowledge they had from the old days. To the stories that they shared....Every shift was total interest.
Yep...The old Generation sure did do it tough....
Nothing to what the newer Generation could handle for sure.
Respect.

Post Re: Old Farts

You can tell that is an American Article.

I have noticed that Aussies aren't very interested in singing the National Anthem, not since they changed it in 1984 to the crap we have now.
But back when we had 'God Save the Queen' it seemed like everyone sung it with pride. I know I did, and those around me. Loudly. Not because we love the Queen, but because it felt 'Aussie'.

I go to Footy matches, Anzac parades, etc and when the National Anthem gets played you can hear everyone groan because they are expected to stand up, then they mouth the words, if they can remember them.
To this day I still don't know the words.
Whereas, in USA they jump up and loudly sing their Anthem, as often as possible!

But yes MadRon, all the rest is accurate. Old Farts had respect for people, and a lot of us baby Boomers have similar traits too (I guess we are the old farts now).

It's a pity the world has changed so much. Sadly it will never revert back to what it was. Out Grandkids are born into a terrible world. Let's hope they wake up and do something about it.

I miss the 60's and 70's

Yes Ken, we are the old farts now, but those of us in our 60's have the same values and respect as our elders.

If we where to ask todays younger generation to respect and practice the
same values that was expected from us they would become all offended
and would need to seek some type of counselling for possible post trauma
problems.

It’s funny how time wiz’s by you in what seems the blink of an eye. But the things that were taught to us as kids and what was expected of us as teenagers and young adults seem now to be of an era that has long disappeared. But every now again not often but sometimes you come across young people who surprise you and have manners and consideration for others and you think to yourself it’s usually a true reflection of there parents and there values

I think most of the guys on here are around their 60's. These values are in us and need to be passed on when we can. Generations of late havent had the same 'parenting' that we had. Families are pretty screwed up now days, but its never to late, we cant blame them if they havent been taught but we can blame ourselves if we dont try and teach them, they are worth it.

Yep they are our future Bonsai and we should do our best for them for sure
and never give up on them.

I also spend a lot of time in caravan parks where I endure mostly people in
the 55-75 year old bracket and to be honest a lot of them are downright
rude and arrogant (not to me as we ask for a more isolated parts of the park)
they look down their noses at each other thinking their shit don't stink, you
can pick em as they have the big fancy van and expensive Landcruiser Sahara's
and they can't wait to brag how good they are, northern NSW caravan parks
on the coast is full of them.

I just cant help thinking if they have kids and what snooty knosed little arrogant
pricks they must be, how could they be respectful when their parents show many
traits of being total fucktards. Glad I look like a ferel biker cause they steer well
clear of me and the misses, or maybe they take offence to me offering them a
couple of cones or a quick joint, works every time.

Hahaha funny you should mention that Bluey, we find the same thing. They rave on about how great caravaners are and how friendly etc, what a load of shit. Most won't give you the time of day and only speak when they say goodbye when you are leaving. There are some good ones though, I was talking to the people next to us at Armidale a few weeks ago and he was a Harley owner, so we had a good chinwag.

As Bonsai says, there's a lot of screwed up families out there. Still being married after 42 years my kids tell us we are the minority now, everybody they know has fractured families.

I knew I wasn't just imagining it but I have been in enough caravan parks
now to know that a it's a place for knob jockeys to flex up and turn themselves
into "fearless fly".

But you also meet others just like us for sure.
