Post 2014 Sees New Smaller Harleys In India

For the 2014 range - INDIA

Harley-Davidson India are introducing a range of new Harleys smaller than the current 883cc Sportster for the Local Indian market.

Harley-Davidson executives from the US and India are meeting with Indian vendors and dealers in order to setup distribution of the new model(s). Expected to debut at the 2014 New Delhi show, the India-specific line will be in the 400cc-500cc range, feature a v-twin motor, and cost Rs 3.5 lakh ($6,381).
This price and feature point should put Harley-Davidson directly in competition with bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and KTM 390 Duke in the Indian market, though commanding a premium over these models.

Harley-Davidson India currently builds SuperLow and Iron 883 variants of the Sportster.

Jane, it's actually pretty smart business sense of the MoCo to make these smaller models in India.
They'll sell a gazillion of the things!
Too bad if we don't like them, the Indians will love them

They can start a heap of 500cc-600cc 1% clubs over there:
Dilmah Angels
Mahatma Bandits
The Sachin Tendulkar Demons

But yeah, the AMF disaster was exactly that . . . a disaster!

It's not the first time Harley have paid others to produce a smaller range of bikes ,
the Aermacchi range of bikes might not have appealed to all but they where a
great Italian bike , especially the racing models .

And for the racing enthusiast who likes a neat clean small racing bike here is some pictures

Air cooled two stroke racer I think this was a 350cc model

HD Aermachhi bikes were cool.

But from what I am reading, the small Indian Harleys will be a smaller version of a Sporty Engine. Not another manufacturers design labelled as a HD.  They are  a V-twin configuration.
They may be something along the lines of the XLCR Cafe Racer or a Buell considering they want to capture the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and KTM 390 Duke market.

They will be totally manufactured in India, not parts shipped to India and assembled like the current models.

Could also be useful in the states that have LAMS bikes, as the 883 bikes are to big for the LAMS system and a way for Harley Davidson to get the learners in these states to buy their bikes. I would have thought about buying one for the wife to learn on

If they are allowed to export them.
So far all they say is that the new bikes will be available to India and parts of Asia.

I'm sure Learners here in Oz would like them too.

Here's just one article about the new India bikes explaining that they will be a 500cc V-Twin: http://blog.motorcycle.com/2013/01/...e-500cc-v-twin/

I'm still searching for any leaked photos because they are already being made
